Resources!

Let me start by saying I am NOT a psychiatrist, psychologist, counselor, clinical social worker, or any other kind of licensed mental health professional. That is not why I am here or why I am writing.

I am a parent. Additionally, I was a teacher, the faculty advisor for our school’s GSA, and my school’s liaison to the district’s LGBTQ+ committee. (The committee disappeared in 2022 following the signing of the first Don’t Say Gay bill in our state.)

I can also offer you a short list of wonderful resources for parents, youth, families, and ways to get involved.

Keep in mind that this list is a work in progress and I welcome recommendations for additions to what you will find here:

PFLAG is the nation's largest organization dedicated to supporting, educating, and advocating for LGBTQ+ people and those who love them.

A network of groups, websites, special projects & resources dedicated to supporting, educating and empowering families with LGBTQ+ members and the LGBTQ+ community.

The Trevor Project’s mission is to end suicide among LGBTQ young people. It offers an emergency helpline, counseling, and other resources.

HRC’s campaigns are focused on mobilizing those who envision a world strengthened by diversity, where our laws and society treat all people equally, including LGBTQ+ people and those who are multiply marginalized.

Equality Florida is Florida's statewide civil rights organization dedicated to securing full equality for Florida's lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) community.
